Learn to sail

Discover Sailing Courses

Darling Point Sailing Squadron (DPSS) is a volunteer-run club and an Australia Sailing accredited Discover Sailing Centre providing recognised Discover Sailing Courses which are run by our Senior Instructor and supported by instructors and assistant instructors. All instructors have Australian Sailing qualifications.

At DPSS, we offer the following programs:

Tackers 1  and Tackers 2

Tackers 1 - Having Fun is an introductory, fun, games-based sailing program designed for kids aged about 7 to 12. Kids don’t need to have any sailing experience and they don’t have to be a member of our club to participate. All the equipment, including the boats and life jackets, is provided. Kids play loads of games and go on adventures together to learn how to sail.

After completing Tackers 1, kids move onto a Tackers 2 - Tricks and Techniques course. If kids are confident, they can sail a boat on their own with lots of support, supervision and encouragement from the Instructor and Assistant Instructors.

For more information or to register your child go to our Tackers for Kids page.

Dolphins Sunday morning program - getting ready to race

This is the next step after Tackers 1 and 2.  Darling Point Sailing Squadron offers a 'Dolphins' program for kids who are getting ready to race. The Sunday morning sessions during the sailing season are run in Sabots as DPSS sponsors Sabots as part of its Sailing pathway.

To be eligible to join the Dolphins program kids:

  • should have completed a Tackers 1 and a Tackers 2 course
  • become a member of DPSS.

For more information or to register go to the Dolphins page.
