Tackers for Kids

Tackers programs

For the kids! Our Tackers programs are held in the OziOpti class which has been specifically designed to make sailing simple and safe for kids and delivered by our qualified Yachting Australia instructors and assistant instructors.

Targeted at approx 6 – 12 years of age, with a carefully constructed syllabus to gradually introduce kids to the boats and build confidence through fun activities and games. For more info about the Tackers program click here.

We provide the boats, lifejackets and qualified instructors and morning tea. You need sun protection - a hat, sunscreen, long-sleeved shirt. Please also wear/bring spare clothes, a towel, a water bottle, closed-in non-slip shoes that can get wet and a big smile. What to bring click here.

Numbers for each course are strictly limited and enrolments are accepted on the basis of first to enrol and pay through the online registration and payment system. We offer a small discount when registering more than one child. Please email dpssdsc@gmail.com for more information on regsitering more than one child.

Tackers 1 - Having Fun

Kids sail in pairs in small boats. It’s a great way to meet new friends and have the chance to sail with others in their group. The cost for Tackers 1 per child is $370 + website administration fees for the seven-week course. From April 2024 the cost of the course will be reduced to $340 + website administration fees as we will no longer be providing the Zhik Tackers packs. Tackers 1 is run by our DPSS Australian Sailing qualified Instructors and Assistant Instructors. Children must be able to swim 50 metres.

Tackers 2 - Tricks and Techniques

Once the kids are confident, they learn to sail a boat on their own with lots of support, supervision and encouragement from the Instructor and Assistant Instructors. Cost for Tackers 2 per child is $360 + website administration fees for seven-week course. From April 2024 the cost of the course will be reduced to $340 + website administration fees as we will no longer be providing a sailing book for each child. Tackers 1 is run by our DPSS Australian Sailing qualified Instructors and Assistant Instructors. Children must have completed Tackers 1 prior to joining Tackers 2.
